Today our clubmen took to the roads for the season opener the Lacey Cup promoted by Tralee Manor West BC as usual is was a superb well run event and all our riders came home safe and sound.

We had a great turnout with a number of debutants to the racing scene in the A4 category, namely Gabriel Gallagher, Alan Jones, John O’Donoghue and Mike O’Shea this quartet of clubmen came into the event hardened from a diligent winters training. Gabriel was unfortunate to encounter mecha.nical trouble but put in a tremendous effort and finished the event as did John O’Donoghue who has put in a remarkable amount of training and suffered a knee injury on today’s ride was impaired to finish as strong as he is capable of , as relative new comers to the sport they have to be commended on their efforts, rumour has it their training partner Bernard is doing an intense training camp of his own up and down the hills of San Fran for the next 3 weeks so riders beware upon his return!!!

Our Hamper race champion Mike O’Shea had a great race finishing in the top 12 as did Alan Jones our resident Etape Tour de France specialist. In the A3 race we had Edward “The Rock” Casey who rode strongly from the start and was very active in the opening stages of the race, Peter Clendennen rode very well and this duo were accompanied in the A3 category by Flor O’Mahony and Brendan O’Sullivan. They were quickly joined by club mate and A2 rider Micheal O’Shea who started with the A2 field two minutes behind the A3’s. Micheal, Peter and Ed were our three best placed club riders at the finish mixing it up with the best out there.
