Well done to all our club riders who turned out in droves for the opening road race of the season in Munster the eagerly anticipated Lacey Cup a handicapped event.  The race was run off in the format of A3’s were give a 2min advantage of the A2’s and likewise the A2’s were given a 2min advantage over the A1’s with the A4’s having their own seperate race due to the large number of riders.

Based at the Manor West Hotel and promoted by the Manor West IBike Tralee Bicycle Club the field of riders had a neutralised roll out as far George Poff Motors in Blennerville the route took the riders to Camp Gleann na Gealt Annascaul Inch Castlemaine Sliabh Mish Climb and finished on the run into Tralee.

We had a great turn out of Killorglin Club riders on the day in the A4 race we had Bernard Sweeney who was taking part in his first official racing event and put in a powerful performance our grizzly war horse Derry O’Sullivan was on hand to accompany his clubmate and put in a sterling performance we also Gay Gallagher taking part in that event and was jumping out of his skin on the day we’ll done Gay on a splendid performance.

In the handicapped event of our A3’s we had Jamie O’Shea Edward Casey Peter Clendennen and Brendan O’Sullivan Michéal O’Shea was our sole A2 rider the lads raced well in what was very hard and aggressive race. Of the Killorglin rider Peter Clendennen had an outstanding race and really found his racing legs on the season opener along with his brother in law Micheal our resident club Commisaire Kieran Doherty was also on duty on the day. Racing next week is in Newcastle West on Sat and Broadford on Sunday with a number of riders also travelling to Westport next weekend for Ras Maigheo.
